HERE Technologies Project

Phase I: Research & Insights

Beginning with observational research and/or user interviews, in collaboration with the design research team, I was able to gain insight into how customers were using the current applications we offered. Realizing there were several different scenarios in which people used any given application, myself along with the product teams prioritized desired features based off of insights gained in our research sessions using affinity mapping. From there we were able to identify key areas that needed serious upgrades.

User research and data analysis

Phase II: Design Strategy

Using design thinking strategies, worked collaboratively with research, marketing, and product teams to determine UX strategy and product direction.

Phase III: Design and Prototype Development

  • Design system planning and development: Established a design system that would ensure consistency across the platform while allowing for regional customization where needed.
  • Wireframing: Developed wireframes for various app screens, meticulously planning each element of the user interface to ensure intuitive navigation and a seamless experience. These wireframes served as the foundation for the app's structure, focusing on facilitating easy access to educational content and interactive features.
  • Prototyping: Utilized HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Adobe Premeire to create working prototypes to hand off to development. Conducted live prototype demonstrations to stakeholders, providing a tangible sense of the app's look and feel, as well as its functionality.
  • UI Design: Crafted a visually appealing and accessible user interface working with the design system team to identify design system components and define and create new additions if needed.

Phase IV: User Testing & Validation

Conducted extensive user testing across different regions to validate our designs and gather feedback. Worked with local teams to ensure the solution met regional requirements and user expectations.

Phase V: Implementation & Launch

As Sr. UX Designer, after a product is launched and in the hands of customers, I would work with out research team to organize a series of user testing sessions and interviews, employing both qualitative and quantitative methods to evaluate the application's usability and effectiveness understanding the context of the data and to assure the user was accomplishing the jobs to be done in an intuitive manner. Ocassionally, we would also go out and test-drive the traffic analytics application to assure that the data was correct and icons, road segments, and other identifiers were showing up correctly. We then analyzed feedback to identify patterns and areas for improvement, leading to several design iterations that enhanced user engagement and satisfaction, which were then prioritized and put into production.

Phase VI: Continuous Improvement

Established a feedback loop with users and implemented a system for continuous improvement based on real-world usage data and user feedback.

Outcomes

During my time there, HERE's product line went from several one-off applications to a fully platformed suite of industry specific applications solving specific problems for our customers and end users. With the platform and the technologies available, HERE was able to continue to create partnerships where in which their data is utilized to it's fullest potential.
